The Story

The Edward Ruscha Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings is an ongoing project by Gagosian that to date comprises seven volumes. Volume three documents the 168 paintings Ed Ruscha made between 1983 and 1987. In this period, Ruscha introduced two new series, City Lights and Silhouettes, and completed a major public commission for the Miami-Dade Public Library. He also began opting for acrylics rather than oil as a medium. The volume contains a comprehensive exhibition history, bibliography, and biographical chronology, as well as sketches, studies, and documentary photos. It features essays by editor Robert Dean and critic Dave Hickey and a personal tribute by fellow artist Lawrence Weiner.
