The Story

Lee Miller (1907–1977) was a fashion photographer, war correspondent, Surrealist, model, and more, but her achievement as a gourmet chef is frequently overlooked. This cookbook explores Miller’s life through the influence of food and how it ascended to become the creative vehicle for which she eventually swapped her camera.

To assemble this absorbing book, Miller’s granddaughter Ami Bouhassane used her access to never-before-published manuscripts and photographs from the Lee Miller Archives to position cooking at the center of her subject’s extraordinary creative life. Far more than just a collection of recipes, this multi-award-winning volume features more than 180 of Miller’s photographs; nearly a hundred of her recipes; an introduction by her son, Antony Penrose; extensive biographical text; and material from The Entertaining Freezer, the cookbook that Miller was secretly hoping to publish near the end of her life.
