The Story

This Limoges porcelain vase featuring Pablo Picasso’s iconic Danseurs et Musiciens (Dancers and Musicians) (1959) was handmade by a team of skilled ceramists at Galerie Marc de Ladoucette in Paris in collaboration with the Picasso Administration. It is part of an exclusive limited edition produced for Gagosian.

Picasso’s vivacious image originated as a wash drawing created in November 1959 for the front page of Libération, a newspaper that emerged from the French resistance to the Vichy regime. With its strikingly modern form, the vase revisits Picasso’s interpretation of Arcadian themes, its undulating brushstrokes representing a dancer and a musician with a goat and dove, conveying a spirit of creative harmony.
