The Story
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Tom Wesselmann: Standing Still Lifes at Gagosian, West 24th Street, New York, which marked the first time that the complete series was shown together.
The catalogue explores nine monumental works by Wesselmann made between 1967 and 1981. Each comprises multiple canvases, both hanging and standing, shaped according to the outlines of the commonplace objects that they depict. A leading American Pop artist of the 1960s, Wesselmann incorporated everyday objects and advertising ephemera into his representations of the nude, still life, and landscape.
