Tyler Mitchell: I Can Make You Feel Good

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Tyler Mitchell: I Can Make You Feel Good at the International Center of Photography, New York—the artist’s first solo museum show in the United States. Presented as a declaration of joy and presence, the photographs and films on view offer a distinctive vision of Black utopia. Mitchell posits great possibilities for a future of pleasure, power, and visibility and asks us to imagine what a Black utopia could look like.

The publication features full-bleed images, mirroring Mitchell’s all-encompassing vision, which is characterized by a use of glowing natural light and rich color to portray the young Black men and women he photographs with intimacy and optimism. It also includes a statement by the artist; essays by Isolde Brielmaier, Mirjam Kooiman, and Deborah Willis; and a conversation between Mitchell and Hans Ulrich Obrist. This edition has an orange ribbon bookmark attached to the inside back cover.
